Freeloading at Boat Auctions

August 20th, 2011

Some people attend boat auctions with only one thing in mind. The often complimentary refreshment stands. Incredibly, there are those who move from auction to auction with the express intention of getting something to eat and drink. Watching closely at boat auctions one might notice that the serious bidders are not usually those standing around at the sandwich table. Instead, all manner of cheap folk with little or no respect for the overheads paid out by auction houses in support of their business enterprise will be taking advantage of those facilities intended for real customers. Most boat auctions accept this as merely a part of the sub culture surrounding auctions in general and do not do anything about it. The administration involved in selling the refreshments is often considered more trouble than it is worth. This has the unfortunate effect of making the refreshments that are available somewhat poor and uninteresting. Some more exclusive boat auctions have closed guest lists and at these usually have better snacks and drinks on offer.
